PROVOCATIVE STREET MESSAGES BY MOBSTER
I JUST UGLY LAUGHED SO HARD I WOKE UP THE DAMN HOUSE JFC!!!
DO NOT CLICK THIS IF YOU NEED TO BE QUIET
This is a phrase that is used far too often, in reality, it shouldn’t even be a phrase that should exist.
A friend of mine has recently been getting harassed. She made a post about the situation which can be found here.
Here is a screen shot of one of the messages she’s received.
On her post in the caption she said, “This is a perfect example of how men think complimenting and repeatedly harassing women entitles them to their body and for them to have sex with them."
I totally agree with what she said, but after going onto her blog I noticed not everyone felt the same way…
“Whoa whoa whoa. Not all of us objectify women like that…"
These words are the most ignorant words that someone could say in a scenario like this. His words are of course true, but they’re totally and completely unnecessary to say. Nobody should read her words and decide to make it about “not all men”. When you read something like what she’s going through and respond with “not all men” you’re taking attention away from the actual problem which is the fact she’s getting harassed.
Do you know why women say all men are a certain way? Because if someone was to say “Most men are sexist.” or “Most men are stupid.” Do you know what would happen? The men who that statement applies to would brush it off as if it’s not about them. That statement would cause zero change whatsoever.
This situation with Mary is just a small fraction of how many times men decide to differ attention away from what’s actually important, just to defend their own gender. So I have a message to everyone reading this. Next time you see someone say “but not all men” (or something along those lines) please please please, just educate them. Link them to this post or give them a piece of your own mind I don’t care what you do.
We just need to get rid of the whole “but not all men” mentality and focus on things that are actually important.
The thing about this is that sculptures like these in art history were for the male gaze. Photoshop a phone to it and suddenly she’s seen as vain and conceited. That’s why I’m 100% for selfie culture because apparently men can gawk at women but when we realize how beautiful we are we’re suddenly full of ourselves…
Girls don’t let anyone tell you loving yourself is vanity.
“You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.” ― John Berger, Ways of Seeing
I’m going to need a lot of patience just to not hit my forehead so hard with my palm.
